Prevention/Outreach Services

The prevention department’s mission at TPAN is to maintain the agency’s reputation as being Chicago’s first and one-stop agency for individuals looking for HIV prevention information, HIV testing, counseling and/or referrals. This is accomplished via informative presentations, testing, risk-reduction counseling, and referrals for anyone at risk of contracting or transmitting HIV both in-house and off-site at various locations throughout Chicago.

Condom Parties!

TPAN is always looking for Volunteers to help us put together Safe Sex Kits at our monthly Condom Parties. TPAN supplies the food, drinks, and a movie; and our volunteers supply the can-do attitude that helps us put together thousands of Safe Sex Kits that get distributed to the local community.

Condom Parties are held the first Monday of each month, with extra parties scheduled as needed in preparation before large events. Everyone is invited to drop in and help out!

Volunteers go out during the summer months to reinforce the importance of safe sex practices in Lakeview & Andersonville.

Smart Sex

Smart Sex is a group of three HIV prevention initiatives funded by the Chicago Department of Public Health which target:

  1. White men who have sex with men (MSM) ages 21+ on the north side of the city.
  2. African American MSM ages 21+ on the north side of the city.
  3. African American MSM on the West Side.

The program is based on a model intervention called "Community Promise"; and involves outreach to at-risk populations, providing health-related communication and public information, individual and group level interventions, HIV counseling and testing, and referrals to primary care and support services. Smart Sex has been very successful, documenting contact with over 115,668 clients to date.
